Print Qualification Centre (SPA)

FOUNDATION MA

  DURATION

The Foundation Modern Apprenticeship lasts normally 18 months to 2 years depending on the ability of the Trainee and the willingness of the employer to provide the training and opportunities to improve their skills.

It is possible to transfer to an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship upon completion of the Industrial Traineeship if the candidate shows sufficient potential to achieve a higher level qualification.

  FUNDING

Government funding is available to assist employers and where possible, the SPA Print Qualifications Centre will work with the employer in accessing this money.

The SPA Print Qualifications Centre will work with you in sourcing funding. This is an area where the correct presentation to the funding providers will optimise the amount that is obtained.

BACK

Starting in 1999 they are a national training program which provides a foundation for young people seeking a career in the printing industry. It will take them to skilled operator level. Foundation Modern Apprenticeship's are based on NVQ's/SVQ's. A young person aged between 16 and 24 can work through their Foundation Modern Apprenticeship, it must be completed by their 25th birthday. The focus of the training will be on 16 and 17 year olds. They will have to attain Level 2 NVQ/SVQ in their chosen discipline contained within Print Production or Print Commercial, along with GNVQ/GSVQ Level 2 in Key Skills.

These Key Skills (Core Skills in Scotland):

  • Application of Number Level 2
  • Information Technology Level 2
  • Problem Solving Level 2
  • Communication Level 2
  • Personal Skills - Working with Others Level 2
  • Improving Own Learning and Performance Level 2

To achieve this there has to be a delivery mechanism for training, a means of monitoring the performance of the Trainee and a commitment from the Trainee, the Employer, the Training Provider, and the Funding Body.

  • The Trainee has to agree to work hard at achieving the Qualifications.
  • The Employer has to commit to providing the opportunities for this to happen in Safe Working Conditions.
  • The Funding Body has to agree to provide financial support based on reaching agreed milestones, and oversee the quality of the whole scheme.
  • The Training Provider has to contract to provide the agreed level of training and support to the
Trainee and the Company, working within a delivery structure approved by the National Training Organisation.
